Cats and dogs

To 28 June 2026

They’ve been keeping us company for millennia, there are nearly 23 million in French homes, and they sometimes have us wrapped around their paws... Cats and dogs leave their paw print at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie. You will learn absolutely everything there is to know about pooches and felines in this exhibition!

The exhibition

Over the past 20 years, ethology -the science of animal behaviour- has made significant progress, overturning many preconceived ideas about cats Felis catus and dogs Canis familiaris. Their abilities, sensibility and intelligence are demonstrated every day.
Engaging and fun, this exhibition sheds a light on our current feline and canine knowledge. Step into the fur and minds of your favourite pets and explore the way they have integrated into our societies.

The special Cats and dogs exhibition is making a grand return to the Cité, significantly enhanced, following a world tour, after its first presentation here in 2015. Updated content, revised elements, new interactive features and a fresh new look, the exhibition has been given a thorough grooming to provide you with a unique visiting experience!

    In their fur

In this section, we learn about our pets in a fun way! Agility, balance, jumping - compare your performance to that of a cat or dog. Big, small, shorthaired or longhaired… dogs set records for morphological diversity. What is the pattern? A feline coat pattern of course! Play Guess Who? or mix the breeds - ideal for getting acquainted with breeds and genetics. Puppy/Kitten Life: follow their progress until adulthood.

    In their heads

Do you speak dog/cat? Forget about words and communicate through odours, vocalisations, postures, behaviours, etc. In the second part of the exhibition, you’ll see, hear and smell like a dog or a cat. We learn to decode their attitudes and debunk some common misconceptions. Veterinarians, ethologists and behavioural experts are here to lend a paw in understanding the mental and sensory world of cats and dogs.

    In our societies

The relationship between human and animal is a long one! By watching films, listening to the radio, using interactive devices, discover how cats and dogs slowly but surely made their way into our lives. We reflect on the relationship with our companions -sometimes life companions, sometimes work companions. We learn about their well-being and rights. One thing is clear: adopting a pet comes with great responsibility.
